Michael

Michael is the Head Trainer in our Leadership and Management faculty. He has been with the organisation since Day 1 and is a valued member of our Dolph family. Michael is one of the most trustworthy and reliable members of our Dolph family and it is never a boring day in the office with him around!

 

We did a short Q&A with Michael to find out more about him.

What is an interesting fact about yourself?

I delivered my second-born child, which is why everyone around the office calls me Doctor.

Wow! How did that happen?

My wife was about 5 minutes into active labour and we were preparing to head off to the hospital. As she was getting ready, her labour pains got progressively worse really quickly and she was unable to move. I immediately rang 000 for assistance and the helpful Emergency Responder on the telephone guided me on what to do. Within 10 minutes my daughter was born, just as the Paramedics came through the door! I was relieved that both Mom and baby were safe and healthy, and I am one proud dad! Even though everything went smoothly (and quickly!), let’s hope our next baby will be a little more patient and wait till we get to the hospital.

What do you like to do in your down time?

I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my wife and my daughters. I have a 4-year-old and a 1-year-old and they truly light up our lives. I love watching them grow, discover and learn new things everyday. Just the other day my 1-year-old took her first steps and I am so grateful to have been there when she did! It is amazing how precious these moments are and you could never re-live them!

What is your favourite part of your role?

I enjoy teaching, inspiring and guiding our students. Being able to interact with our students really gives me great satisfaction and I have been so fortunate to have been able to not just teach, but learn from our students in turn in so many ways!

What made you want to be part of the Dolph family?

Dolph Business School offered me something other training organisations did not – a sense of community and a passion to improve the lives and minds of our society. The social work opportunities that Dolph Business School affords us is also tremendously rewarding! I love what Dolph Business School stands for and what it wants to do for our community.

Why Leadership and Management?

I have always enjoyed teaching and inspiring minds. I have been in a Managerial role for over a decade and I see a lot of enthusiastic, young minds working very hard to climb that corporate ladder. Unfortunately, not everyone has the required skills and knowledge to excel in a leadership and management role. In my experience, organisations usually get the potential leaders and managers to shadow their own leader or manager to learn about their role with no other training provided. I have seen how ineffective this path can be as these mentees tend to pick up bad habits from their mentors, not knowing any better, instead of following a structured framework. So, when I was approached by Dolph Business School to teach, guide and inspire our next generation of leaders and managers, I was excited and jumped at the opportunity!
